Hello Dolly 1969. An American musical film based on a long running Broadway stage show originating from 1964, in turn taken from the play The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder. The film follows the efforts of Dolly Levi, a matchmaker, engaged by an up state New Yorker merchant to find him a wife. Whilst visiting him she convinces his staff and his niece and her intended to go and enjoy a visit to new York city. Romance blossoms, chaos ensues and it’s all wrapped up and presented in the most wonderfully extravagant musical numbers ever filmed. At the helm of this great musical ship is Gene Kelly and is directing in the leading roles the hugely talented and globally famous, due to her movie debut (and Oscar) in the previous years biggest earning film, Barbra Streisand, with Walter Matthau as her co star. In the supporting cast are Michael Crawford, Danny Lockin, Tommy Tune, Marianne McAndrew, E.J. Peaker and Joyce Ames. Also featured is Louis Armstrong.
